Damage is a deduction of a unit's health as result of an attack. The three main damage classifications are Physical. Magic, and True.

Damage sources[]

Damage can be caused by skills, talents, and equipment. Basic attack damage and skill damage are the two types of damage that are commonly used.

Basic attack damage refers to the amount of damage a unit takes with a basic attack. The most common type of basic attack damage is physical damage, but there are some exceptions. Physical lifesteal, magic lifesteal, and attack effects can be triggered by this type of source, depending on the damage type.

Skill damage is damage dealt separately from basic attack damage, with a few exceptions. This includes all skills and battle spells (excluding equipment) that deal one of the three types of damage — magic, physical, or true. Magic lifesteal and spell vamp (if not from equipment and battle spell) and skill effects can be triggered by this source.

Damage types[]

Damage types are used to classify all types of damage. There are three types of damage: physical, magic, and true.

Physical damage is reduced by physical defense, magic damage is reduced by magic defense, and true damage is not reduced by anything (except for damage multipliers).

As shown in the table below, all three damage types interact with other damage-related game mechanics in some way.
